FAMILY HORSES: Arabians Stories, Photos, Experiences, Opinions and Observations Kids & Horses ~ Lost on Mt. Diablo ~ The Horse ~ In Memory |
| I could tell hundreds of stories of kids and
Arabs. My 2nd purebred Arab was a gelding named Essault. He was 12 or 13
when I owned him, but he still LOVED to go for me. In his younger days, he
had placed at Nationals in Formal Combination (I heard conflicting stories
of whether it was Top 10, Reserve, whatever. I was new into Arabs and didn't
know I could get his show records). He still liked to trot and canter and
snort and go. Well, I put a 9 year old on him who had been riding a month or
two. This hot boy dropped his head and carefully carried that girl around
the barn. He was great. Jennifer Williams, President, Lone Star Equine Rescue & Editor and Designer, Equine Design |

IBN BRAHIM (*Sidi-Brahim x Sa Fadira) and
young Christina Kaiser (age 10). All of our young riders ride and show "Ibn", and have Championships in: Country English Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Side Saddle, and Show Hack. "Ibn" is so good to the kids and loves them so much - on some days he breeds mares in the morning, and in the afternoon he is giving young riders their riding lessons! Annie & Shayton click to see pictures |
My 9 year old daughter Annie has an Arabian and I had one as a young girl. Annie's Arabian, Shayton is so smart and sweet and so was mine. We had started Shayton as a sponsored horse, to see if she was right for us. She has been so wonderful. Annie started with very little riding experience and Shayton has been very forgiving of her mistakes. She has a special sense about her riders and has never bucked or taken off in stressful situations. Our stables are right next to an Arabian horse breeding farm. Annie goes into the pasture with three of the mares and their babies to brush and pamper them. One day while I was commenting about how beautiful one of the two year olds was, Annie went out to the pasture in the middle of the two year old herd and brought the cute one in for grooming. That precious colt walked along with Annie so tall and proud. He was very calm while she brushed him. What I have observed is that most horses start out with all the right stuff and when things go bad it usually has to do with how they are handled. Like people horses are a reflection of their environment. |
